All Better
So Monday Lucy had her surgery to remove a cyst (hopefully benign) that she was born with on her tongue. We had to be at Primary Children's at 6 AM so we were up really early. (I don't think John has yet recovered.) I was so happy cause Lucy was in a good mood while we were waiting so that made things a little easier. We were able to walk with her to the door of the operating room then the anesthesiologist took her from there. The whole procedure only took about 30 minutes. After the doctor came and talked to us to ell us everything went good, we were able to go to recovery and see her. When we got there, John went to the bed and just said "Hi Lucy" and she lost it. Absolutely screaming! The nurse had me pick her up to calm her and try to give her a bottle cause she hadn't eaten since about 9 PM the night before. As she was eating, I noticed some blood coming from her mouth. I asked the nurse if it was normal and apparently it wasn't. The bleeding got worse and she was crying so hard so while I held Lucy, the nurse had to hold a towel on her tongue to try to stop the bleeding. After about 10 minutes, we finally got it to stop. It was so sad. I was crying right along with Lucy. Once we got everything under control and got her to eat something we were finally able to go home. She has been a little loopy with the pain medicine but she's getting so much better and getting back to her normal, happy little self. I'm so glad that we were able to do this before she was old enough to remember it. We'll find out in a couple of weeks if the cyst was benign or not. We're pretty sure it's not, but we're keeping our fingers crossed nonetheless. Thanks to everyone for the prayers. We definitely felt them all!

Christmas is Coming!
I LOVE Christmas! I am so excited that it is almost here. I love that I get to spend the whole holiday with my family. That has to be a major high point of the season, all of the time spent with family. I just wanted to put up a few pics from the past couple of weeks. Well, basically not much has happened so I don't really have much to write about. So you get pictures. Don't worry though, next week I will. Lucy is having surgery on Monday to remove a cyst on her tongue. It's not a huge procedure, but because she's so young they have to put her under so that makes me nervous. I know that she will be in good hands, but still. That's my baby girl. I'll be sure to let you know how everything goes.
This is our tree. We put it up the day after Thanksgiving. I think it's so pretty. I love it. Although next year we're going to have to babyproof it. It's a good thing Lucy doesn't crawl yet.

Now this is my parents tree. It's AMAZING! It is honestly one of the prettiest trees I have ever seen, And it's HUGE! K- John is 6'5 and the tree is still taller than him.
This picture really doesn't do it justice. It's gorgeous!

Thanksgiving does the body good...
Well, it's now my turn to blog about the Thanksgiving weekend. It was great! We had dinner at John's parents house with his whole family. I was good! I love being able to spend time with our family. John was so excited to feed Lucy some mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin pie. Well, she loved it. All of it. I was so fun to see her playing with her cousins too. After dinner, we went over to my parents for dessert and just to hang out with my family.
Lucy and her cousin Ava who is exactly 2 weeks older.

Lucy will hit the 7 month mark tomorrow. I know that I say this every time, but I can't believe it!. She is so big and so funny! She still isn't, well won't, roll over but she'll scoot herself instead. It's so funny. She has also started dancing all the time. Oh my goodness it's so funny!. She'll just be sitting there and start dancing. I've tried to get it on video, but every time she sees the camera she stops whatever she's doing, so as soon as I one I'll be sure to post it so you can see what I'm talking about. But here are a few pictures as a bit of an update until I can get that video.

She was dancing in this picture but she wouldn't do it long enough for a video

Love Of My Life
In my last post, I briefly talked about my wonderful husband. But I wanted to dedicate a whole post to this amazing man. I got this idea from my friend Teresa(thanks Tree). I just want to begin by saying that I love John so much. He is honestly the best thing that has ever happened to me. He treats me so well and takes such good care of me and Lucy. He will drop anything to do something for us. I don't think there has been a day in our marriage that he hasn't told me that he loves me at least 50 times! He is so sweet. He doesn't come off as a romantic, but oh my goodness, he is! He is always planning little surprises for me that are so cute and romantic. He makes me laugh so hard and we always have so much fun. I just want to give you all a little insight on my amazing husband!!
What is his name: John David Matern
How long have you been married: 15 months
How long did you date: We dated for about 10 months before we got married
Who eats more sweets: Hmm, this could actually be a toss up. We both are suckers for sweets. But I think I might have a little more control than John does. Whenever there is any sweets or junk food, he'll always be seen eating it.
Whose parents do you see most: We try to be equal, but I would probably say mine. We switch off eating at their houses on Sunday, but my family likes to play games and get together a little more often than his does.
Who said I love you first: John did actually. He brought me home after a institute one night and we were on my doorstep. He gave me a hug and whispered it in my ear. I wasn't sure what he said so I didn't say anything back. When I got inside, I realized that he had said "I love you" and I freaked out! I felt so bad cause I had been wanting to say it for a while and I couldn't believe that he had said it. So the next time I saw him he told me again and I said it back.
Who is taller: HAHA Well, this is kind of obvious. John is. John is 6'5" and I am 5'4". Yeah, I'd say John is taller.
Who is smarter: I would definitely say that John is smarter. He will for sure be the one that will be helping the kids with their homework. He is finishing up his Masters right now at the U in Civil Engineering Project Management. This is his last semester and then he is done forever!
Who does the laundry: I do, with his help. By this I mean, I will do it and then he usually has to help me fold it and put it away cause I HATE FOLDING LAUNDRY!! He has to remind me to put it away otherwise it would stay in the baskets and never get folded or put away. haha
Who does the dishes: John will usually do the dishes if I make dinner. Ok, he INSISTS he does the dishes if I make dinner. How lucky am I?
Who pays the bills? Hmm, I guess I do. But he keeps track of all the finances (that's totally his thing) and I'll write the checks.
His guilty pleasure: Southern Utah and canyoneering. He loves hiking and camping in the desert and hiking in the slot canyons of Southern Utah. It's definitely his release from life. I once asked him if he could ANYWHERE in the world, and he told me Southern Utah. hehe funny boy
Who sleep on the right side of the bed: I do, for no particular reason. That's just how it turned out.
Who has more friends: Hmm, I don't know. Our friends are the same so it's hard to say.
Who cook dinner: I do for sure! John isn't the best cook, but he's learning. He makes excellent French Toast and Waffles though!
Who is more stubborn: Umm I would probably say me. But only sarcastically.
Who kissed who first: John kissed me first. He brought me home from a date and we were on my front steps. He was acting kind of funny, but I didn't think much of it. I started going inside and he grabbed my hand and planted one on me. Well, sort of. haha He missed at first and I laughed at him. Then he tried again and it was wonderful! He had never kissed anyone before so it was amazing. I know! How cute is it that I am the only person he has ever and will ever kiss!?
Who asked who out first: John did. I actually had liked him for a while (we were in the same singles ward) and had been trying to get him to ask me out but he never did. We were always hanging out with the same group of people, but he never asked me out. So I finally decided that I was going to give up on him. I was at institute with a friend and I told her that I was over it and then my phone rang and it was John. He asked me out for that weekend and we were inseparable ever since.
Who proposed: John did. We already knew we were getting married, but we weren't officially engaged. We went to our favorite restaraunt TGIFridays , then he asked if we could go on a little hike. I said sure then he told me I needed to go change shoes and get a water bottle. That made me a little curious. We started going downtown and I wondered to myself where we would be hiking downtown. We finally got to Ensign Peak and started hiking. I had never been there before and it was beautiful. We got to the top and stayed up there for a while and watched the sun set and looked at how pretty the temple was. There were a lot of people up there and it got to be time when we needed to get back down so the car wouldn't be towed. I kind of had a feeling something was up, but he didn't say anything. On our way down he saw a path off to the side that he wanted to check out. It led to another lookout point overlooking downtown and the temple. He started saying how much he loved me and that he wanted to take me to the temple teach our family about the amazing blessings received there. He said a few other amazingly cute and romantic things and then got down on his knee and proposed. I was so happy! When we got back to the car he had a dozen of the prettiest red roses I've ever seen! It was perfect!
Who has more siblings: I do, I have 1 sister and 2 brothers. He has 1 brother and 1 sister.
What is your favorite thing about him: Absolutely everything!! He is my best friend, my husband, my lover, the most amazing father and everything else in between. I love that he makes me laugh every single day. I love how good he is with Lucy and how he plays and loves her. I love how he will do absolutely everything and anything for his family. I love how goofy he is and how goofy I can be around him. I feel so lucky to have him as my husband and the father of our children.
I love you John!!

Family Pictures and 6 Month Stats
So I know that it has been a while since I have posted anything, but our internet hasn't been working for about the last week. So finally, I'm able to get online again! So, my baby girl is 6 months old. I can't believe it! She had her 6 months appointment last week and well, she is still a big girl. She weighs 18 lbs 2.5 oz (in the 90th%) and is also in the 90th% for height. So she's tall and chunky. I love it! She is sitting up amazingly well. Her doctor said that she sits like an 8 or 9 month old. But, she still WON'T roll over. Not that she can't, she just won't. She hates her tummy so she just won't roll. She would much rather just sit or stand for hours on end. I think she'll walk before she ever rolls over! haha
This past weekend we were also able to get some family pictures taken. I had my brother and his friend come to Murray Park with us and take some pictures. They turned out amazing! They both did such a good job!
Look at my baby girl!
She loved the leaves
my little sweet pea

I love my baby girl so much. I can't believe how big she is!

I love this man with all of my heart. John is my best friend in the entire world and the love f my life. He is the best father to Lucy and I couldn't ask for anything more. He takes such good care of me and Lucy.
My little family is the greatest blessing I could have ever imagined receiving. I am so blessed with everything I have.

I Love The Fall!
Can I just say that I LOVE the Fall. I love seeing the leaves change colors and the weather start to cool down. And I feel lucky that our house have 3 HUGE trees that have a ton of leaves that are turning beautiful colors. This weekend the weather was so nice, so Saturday when John was outside doing yardwork, Lucy and I just sat on the front lawn and played for about an hour. Lucy loves being outside. She gets her love of the outdoors from her dad. John is so excited to be able to take her hiking and camping.
There are already leaves on the ground so we let Lucy play in the leaves. Well, she tried to eat them more than play with them.
Such a happy girl

Last week we also went to my parents ward Trunk or Treat. Halloween has never been my favorite holiday, but I think now that I have a child of my own that I get to dress up, it's so much fun! So for this Halloween, I decided to dress Lucy up as a tiger. It's so cute! I had to add a bow to the costume otherwise you can't tell if she was a girl. lol
I just had to put this one up cause I love the little tail!
Don't you love how they have the same expression haha!

Anyways, I know that I said I was going to have pictures of the painting I was doing, but it didn't get done this past weekend. I'm finishing this weekend so hopefully next week I'll have some pictures for you.

Not much going on...
So, not much has been going on lately which is why I haven't posted in a while. Conference was a couple of weeks ago and it was so nice to just be with our families and listen to the words of our prophet and apostles. We were also able to go to the park and have a picnic before the weather started getting too cold. Lucy loved it.
She loves being outside!

Last weekend John, Lucy and I went downtown to the Joseph Smith Memorial building to see the Joseph Smith movie. Lucy was so good during the movie. She stayed awake for the first half of the movie and then tuckered out. Here are a few pictures from after the movie, we went and walked around the grounds for a minute.

Lucy and Daddy

Here are a few more pics for lately, just as an update.
She's getting so big, I can't believe it!

Ooo! I have also been painting our house. I am so excited to finally have color on my walls! They were all the same off white color. John had a hard time understanding why I wanted to paint so bad, but he finally gave in and let me. Hopefully I'll be done this weekend, so I'll be sure to post pictures as soon as it's done!
